Environmental Policy

Policy Commitments

HawkPartners is committed to environmental stewardship and creating a sustainable future. We recognize the link between human activities and environmental impacts, particularly climate change, and strive to operate in an environmentally responsible manner that meets or exceeds applicable laws and regulations.

We pledge to:

  1. Continuously improve our environmental performance and reduce negative impacts on the environment
  2. Comply with our SBTi commitment to maintain zero scope 1 emissions through 2030, to reduce absolute scope 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions
  3. Comply with all applicable environmental regulations and pursue opportunities to meet or exceed recognized environmentally responsible benchmarks
  4. Reduce our carbon footprint and energy usage in line with science-based targets, aiming for significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and ultimately achieving net-zero emissions
  5. Engage our research partners, employees, and stakeholders in our sustainability initiatives
  6. Integrate environmental management into our business planning, risk assessment, and decision-making processes
  7. Provide employee training and resources to support environmental initiatives and empower staff to take action when environmental risks are identified
  8. Regularly monitor, assess, and report on our environmental performance to drive continuous improvement

We are dedicated to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility throughout our organization. This commitment extends to our research partners, customers and employees. By implementing these principles, we aim to create long-term value for our clients while actively reducing our environmental impact.

Resource Conservation

  • Energy Efficiency: Reduce energy consumption through efficient equipment and practices
  • Water Conservation: Minimize water usage and improve water efficiency
  • Waste Reduction: Minimize waste generation and increase recycling/reuse efforts

HawkPartners partners with Native to offset our carbon emissions to remain operationally carbon neutral.

Native helps companies make their sustainability visions a reality. From high impact carbon projects that strengthen your supply chain to renewable energy projects in the global communities you call home, we’ll make your intentions a reality so you can meet your goals for sustainable business.

Each year, HawkPartners works with Native to estimate the firm’s carbon emissions considering the firm’s travel, procurement, energy use, and hotel accommodations. Once aligned on the total estimated Tonnes of C02e emitted, HawkPartners selects a project to offset its emissions.

Sustainable Procurement

  • Source environmentally friendly products and services
  • Work with our research partners/recruiting agencies to improve their environmental practices

SBTi Target Commitment

  • HawkPartners worked with the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) to establish SME science-based targets which have been approved
  • We are actively tracking towards these targets and adjusted our internal processes to allow for easy reporting
  • HawkPartners has made the commitment to maintain zero scope 1 emissions through 2030, to reduce absolute scope 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce our scope 3 emissions

Employee Engagement

  • Provide environmental guidance to all employees (e.g., travel guidance, daily routine recommendations)
  • Keep employees up to date on the firm’s sustainability efforts and goals
  • Facilitate periodic lunch and learns or roundtable discussions
  • Encourage employee participation in environmental initiatives

Continuous Improvement

  • Annually review and update our environmental objectives to achieve our targets
  • Monitor and report on our environmental performance

Implementation

  • Establish monitoring and reporting mechanisms

Since travel accounts for the largest portion of CO2 emissions, we encourage HawkPartners to consider the following Green steps

  • Encourage direct flights whenever possible, even if a bit more expensive (takeoff and landing is when planes burn the most fuel, i.e., when most CO2 is generated)
  • When booking flights, use Google Flights to explore flight options, and consider their emissions tracker when selecting a flight
    • Certain airlines are using more fuel-efficient aircrafts (like the Airbus A350XWB and Boeing 737 Dreamliner) or use biofuel blends. Google now tracks this and will tell you which flights have lower, average or higher emissions (shown below)
    • Even if committed to using a certain airline, this is still relevant as different flights through the same airline will have different emissions rates
  • Encourage rail travel for shorter trips (e.g., Boston à New York)
  • Consider carpooling when possible / relevant
  • Consider public transportation when possible (e.g., hotel airport shuttles)
  • Opt-out of daily housekeeping and laundering services when staying at hotels for multiple nights
  • Bring a reusable water bottle and/or coffee mug when travelling
  • When preparing for in-person research days, ask the facility for a pitcher of water and glasses to be available vs. plastic water bottles
  • When possible, always use a digital boarding pass vs. printed documents
  • If renting a car, select a hybrid or otherwise more fuel-efficient option
  • Consider the number of team members necessary for client-related travel

Review and Communication

  • Review this policy annually and update as necessary
  • Communicate this policy to all employees and research partners, as well as clients as required
  • Make policy publicly available
