Client Context
A leading global technology company needed to differentiate its Gen AI offering for healthcare providers in an increasingly crowded and fast-moving market.

The Business Challenge
The team wanted to figure out how to leverage its well-known tech brand in the healthcare space, where offerings within a specific type of AI solution were increasingly seen as interchangeable. In the face of smaller, nimble start-up competition, the risk was clear: being evaluated as just another “good-enough” tool rather than as a strategic partner capable of driving enduring value across clinicians, patients, and institutions.
Capabilities Applied
- Competitive Positioning
- Strategic Messaging Framework
- Narrative Optimization
Approach
HawkPartners’ deep experience with healthcare providers allowed us to develop several internal hypotheses as to how the client could compete better, which guided some targeted insight work. HawkPartners conducted two phases of blinded, qualitative interviews with senior hospital administrators and clinical leaders to understand how the market perceived provider support solutions and how the client’s pitch landed in context. We assessed reactions to the current narrative, identified where competitive differentiation was lost, and surfaced areas that meaningfully resonated once articulated clearly. Between the two phases, the team updated the pitch tested based on preliminary insights, so that learning was iterative. Insights were synthesized into a concise, scalable positioning framework designed to reframe the offering away from feature parity and toward long-term value creation at scale.
Impact
The work revealed a central shift: while customers viewed this specific application of AI as commoditized, they responded favorably once the client’s broader vision was clearly understood. By reframing the conversation to leverage the company’s well-established tech brand while using language that felt relatable and natural to those in the healthcare space, their solution evolved from a tactical productivity tool to a platform-level opportunity tied to speed to value, trust, and the ability to connect data, workflows, and clinical intelligence over time. As a result, the team gained a clear path to reposition its story, engage clients more effectively, and compete for market leadership based on strategic partnership rather than incremental functionality.
