Margaret Andrews

Margaret Andrews is a seasoned academic and business leader with over twenty years of experience in higher education, business, consulting and teaching. She has held a variety of senior management positions, has taught and consulted across the globe, and is adept at bringing ideas, people and processes together to innovate and improve results.

Margaret has deep expertise in the higher education arena and managing for innovation. She has worked as Vice Provost at the Hult International Business School where she led the global academic team across five campuses in four countries (the United States, United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and China), including approximately 200 faculty and staff and over 2,500 students across five programs. While at Hult, Margaret launched a new MBA program that blends traditional courses with managerial soft skills – the program won the 2014 AMBA Innovation Award.

Prior to her work at Hult, Margaret was Associate Dean for Management Programs at Harvard University’s Division of Continuing Education. In this role she oversaw one of the school’s largest programs, serving over 4,000 students each year and launched a series of short, non-credit professional development programs and grew them into a successful business of open enrollment and custom programs. Previously, she was Executive Director at the MIT Sloan School of Management where she managed the MBA program, Admissions, Student Affairs, Career Development, Marketing, Alumni Relations and the MIT Sloan Management Review. While at MIT Sloan, Margaret increased high quality applications over 40%, markedly improved student selectivity and quality, brought in the highest number and percentage of female students in MIT Sloan history, and consistently achieved the highest or second-highest student employment rate among peer schools and the highest recruiter satisfaction in school’s history.

Other previous positions include Vice President of Marketing at Putnam Investments as well as a CPA at Deloitte & Touche and a consultant at Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman). At Mercer Management Consulting, Margaret did much of her work in strategy formulation and communication, new product development and executive education.

Margaret writes the StratEDgy blog on Inside Higher Ed, which focuses on strategy and innovation in higher education, and is a management education writer for University World News. She also teaches a variety of courses and executive programs at the Harvard University Division of Continuing Education and for private clients, including Creativity and Innovation, Making Teams Work, Leadership and Decision Making, Managing Yourself and Leading Others and Strategic Business Insights, among others.

Margaret hails from California and has an undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley. She is also a graduate of MIT Sloan, where she was named a Seley Scholar – the school’s highest honor.
